runningincirclesNubia was born into the Amell family, a house of nobility in the Free Marches. She was taken to the Ferelden Mage Circle, like most mages, as a child, when she first showed signs of magical talent. She was studious and friendly, and unbeknownst to her had caught the eye of a handsome Templar named Cullen, which caused him only frustration as any kind of potential relationship was forbidden.
She made it through her Harrowing, but soon afterward she became involved in a plot to help her friend Jowan escape the circle with his templar lover Lily, which involved breaking into the tower basement to reclaim his phylactery, which would prevent the templars from tracking him. Unfortunately, they were caught - Jowan escaped using blood magic, and Nubia only escaped punishment due to Warden-Commander Duncan invoking the Right of Conscription. She had her Joining along with Alistair at Ostagar, right before Teyrn Loghain's betrayal of King Cailan, and the death of Duncan.
Throughout their journey to invoke the Grey Warden treaties to rouse forces to fight the Blight, Nubia and Alistair became close, and eventually lovers. This led to a great deal of pain when the Landsmeet finally arrived. Nubia pushed Alistair to take the throne, deposing and imprisoning Anora and executing Teyrn Loghain for their crimes. Before the final battle to defeat the archdemon, Nubia accepted Morrigan's proposition, and convinced Alistair to complete the Dark Ritual with Morrigan, fathering a child with her and ensuring both Nubia and Alistair's survival through the final battle.
With Alistair as King, Nubia was appointed the commander of the Ferelden Coalition and together they defeated the Archdemon, ending the Blight. She continued on as Warden Commander of Ferelden, moving to the newly acquired Gray Warden lands in Amaranthine, Vigil's Keep.
